Choosing Wall and Floor Tiles: What You Need to Know

Tiles define the look and feel of your space. They add atmosphere, color, and character. But how do you make the right choice among all the different sizes, materials, colors, and styles? In this blog, we share the most important tips and insights from our years of hands-on experience.

Wall tiles vs. floor tiles

Wall tiles are usually lighter and thinner, while floor tiles are heavier and more wear-resistant. Still, many modern tiles can be used on both walls and floors – especially in today’s bathrooms. For floor tiles, pay attention to slip-resistance ratings (for example, R10 or R11).

Large format or small?

Large tiles create a calm, modern look – ideal for sleek bathrooms or kitchens. Smaller tiles, like mosaics, add detail and character. In showers or niches, we often combine both for a stylish finish.

Color, grout, and layout

  • Color: Light shades make a room look bigger, dark tones add warmth.

  • Grout color: Match the grout to the tile color for a seamless look – or go for contrast to add character.

  • Layout: Rectangular tiles can be laid in brick bond, herringbone, or straight patterns – each creates a different effect.

Ceramic or natural stone?

Ceramic tiles are low-maintenance, scratch-resistant, and available in endless styles. Natural stone has more character but requires more care. We’ll gladly advise you on what best fits your space, style, and daily use.

Our tip

Don’t just look at style – think about practicality. A tile can look stunning, but if it’s slippery in a shower or hard to clean in a kitchen, it won’t be the right choice.
